PANTHERS RUGBY REBORN
With a cherished history spanning over seven decades, the Edenvale Rugby Club stands as a testament to rugby passion, commitment, and heritage. Yet, it had been nearly 20 years since the club’s junior teams graced the field. This silence was broken in April 2022, marking the dawn of a new era for Panthers Rugby.
Andrew Walker, alongside his son Logan and a spirited group of friends, ignited this revival. Their Sunday practice sessions soon resonated with the rhythm of ambition and potential. Recognizing this, our senior Chairman, Ernie Enslin, extended an offer to Andrew: the responsibility of rekindling the junior Panthers’ spirit. Embracing the challenge head-on, practice sessions expanded to include Monday and Wednesday nights, ensuring our young talents received the best training regimen.
Andrew’s Edenvale roots and indefatigable spirit became the catalyst. Rapidly, he embarked on a mission—recruiting players, drawing sponsors, and, importantly, securing a roster of top-notch coaches. Each of these coaches is Boksmart accredited, reflecting our commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
As participants in the Valke League, our teams gear up each year around July for an electrifying season with about ten gripping matches. But Panthers Rugby represents more than mere sport. As Andrew, an unwavering rugby aficionado professes, it’s about instilling core values of discipline, respect, and diligence.

I have always been extremely passionate about Rugby, starting from playing at Edenglen High a long way back. Unfortunately an ACL injury ended my Rugby dream so I put my focus into being the biggest Rugby fan! When my son started to play Rugby at school, we wanted a place to go for extra practice with his friends. We approached the Chairman of the Edenvale Panthers and decided to start the Junior League at the Club. As an Entrepreneur who has built up businesses over the years, it was only natural that the Panthers Junior Club became my next endeavour. I am proud to say that since our inception in 2022, we have grown in leaps and bounds. In my role as Chairman, I want to ensure that we continue to grow as a Club and family but also to continue improving the Edenvale Sports Grounds.
